About alpaca wool

Alpaca wool is one of the most soft, silky, durable and luxurious natural fiber. It was once prized by Inca royalty; considered as ‘the wool for the Gods’; and the skills needed to spin and knit it have been handed down over generations.

Alpaca wool  is perfect for all seasons due its unique thermical properties and its cellular structure that allows the user to breathe through the fibres on warm days, and likewise traps body heat in cold weather and keeps the body temperature constant.

It does not retain water, is thermal even when it is wet and can resist solar radiation effectively. These characteristics guarantee the animals a permanent and appropriate coat to protect against extreme changes of temperature and offers the same protection to humans.

Also alpaca wool is ideally suited for use in baby and children clothing because it is hypoallergenic (lanolin free), elastic and very durable so the garments can be used longer than usual and pass through several hands before they gets old.

It is the perfect fiber for the eco-conscious consumer. Alpacas are considered some of the “greenest” animals around and because alpaca is naturally free of lanolin and other oils found in sheep’s wool, no harsh chemicals are needed to process alpaca fiber, making alpaca ranching 100% natural and safe for the environment.

Baby Alpacas

Baby Alpacas(c) MrHicks46,

Most of our products are made of high quality pure alpaca wool; specially clothing from our own clothing line Kuychi Knitwear; but  also we have products from alpaca wool blended with cotton, sheep wool or acrylic. You will find in the description of each product the material used.

Remember that pure wool does not need to be washed so often; and washing an alpaca garment doesn’t take more than 7 minutes of your valuable time. Given a little care, a piece of quality knitwear will last for generations.
